Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 9 July 2017
“The past only comes back‘, wrote Virginia Woolf in her unfinished memoir, “when the present runs so smoothly that it is like the sliding surface of a deep river. Then one sees through the surface to the depths“. I confess, I am a huge fan of Virginia Woolf, the English writer who is considered to be one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century and essentially (to me) a pioneer in the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device. I ‘discovered’ Woolf’s work as a young girl, long before my eldest son attended boarding school, in Lewes, where she died, drowning herself in the River Ouse, not far from her home. Woolf above all was a pioneer for women, she is a reminder to us all that we must follow our creative urges, we must make up for the time lost (essentially in the West), where we are now freed. One of the many things I love about mobile photography and art, is that women are owning it. I am not against male work at all but I love, the freedom it gives to women, and men are adoring us, even more for it. The creative coalescing between all of our work makes for a richer, deeper picture. We speak to each other, through our imagery, We are all part of this powerful show and how it plays on, rejoice!
