Video Community – Tik Tok – The Worlds Most Downloaded App Improves Privacy Controls

News just in from Southern China, notably includes information relating to the app Tik Tok, well known the world’s most downloaded app, available for both iOS and Android. The developers behind Tik Tok have increased its user privacy and protection. Tik Tok is a global video community app, powered by music. Users can create their own short videos and share around the globe.  Recently though disturbing scenes have been captured, including minors simulating sexual acts and this led to belief specifically that the platform was being used to stalk teenage girls. The new enhanced features allow users to set their videos to private, therefore, allowing only approved followers to view their content. Parents are also able to monitor the time young users are logged into the service and view the content that they see.

Tik Tok is the most downloaded iPhone app worldwide, with a total of 45.8 million downloads, surpassing the downloads recorded by Facebook, YouTube and Instragram – based on research by Sensor Tower, a San Francisco based research company. With over 300 million mainland active users, Tik Tok has also expanded into over 20 markets and reaches over 100 million active overseas users. Most popular in Hong Kong, Japan, much of South East Asia, this is an app that needs to ensure that privacy controls are enforced, cracking down on offensive content and protecting minors and this update offers a strong move in that direction.
