What Apps Are We Using This Month? with David Reid

Welcome to TheAppWhisperer’s new section, “What apps are we using this month” series, where we discover which apps you are particularly enjoying. Kicking us off today is non-other than notable Mobile Artist, David Reid.

I’m David Reid, @dmreidmd, and I live in Raleigh, NC, USA. I’ve been on Instagram for about twelve years and in that time I’ve gone from ‘not old’ to ‘almost old’, 73 now.

I retired four years ago after 44 years in the private practice of Child and Adult Psychiatry. I love playing with apps as well as doing straight-up photography but I’m clearly better at the former. I have tried a number of apps but have settled into using just a relatively few for the past good while.

My main go-to app is definitely iColorama, it has so many cool functions and I’m still learning more about them even now. The others I use a lot are distressedfx with its interesting atmospheres and, of course, birds; matter app, which is a lot of fun and, importantly, provides me with the red balls I can’t seem to do without; lorystripes which gives me balloons and aeroplanes and other fun lines; decim8, great for interesting and unexpected images; Flowpaper a little bit. I also use retouch, Snapseed, layout, image blender and Glitché as needed.

I have tried using AI just a little, Wombodream being the only one. I feel a little bad I haven’t done more but it is a bit of a “ new trick” and, as I mentioned above, I am close to being an “old dog.” I also do everything on my iPhone and wonder about all the cool things folks do on their computers. Clearly, I spend too much time with all this but it’s great fun and, as important, connects me with so many great friends and amazing artists.

Thanks so much, Joanne, for allowing me to participate in this current program.
