Juxtaposer 4 – Major Update to this Hugely Popular Photo App
I am delighted to announce that the highly popular app, Juxtaposer has just been updated and introduces two exciting new features, these include:
– Magic Crop – a powerful and super easy to use new tool that lets you cut out an element from your top image in seconds. Just draw a rectangle around your subject, tap the button, and Magic Crop does the rest, using a Machine Learning model that runs on your device.
– The new Unsplash photo picker allows you find great images to use in your compositions. Search and browse Unsplash’s huge collection of high quality and completely free images.
The developer Hendrik Kueck explained to us here at TheAppWhisperer.com this morning, “one feature I have always wanted to add to it [Juxtaposer] is some form of semi-automatic image segmentation. That is, a smart masking tool. And that’s what I now finally did. I worked on this feature for over a year and am excited to finally ship it now and get it into my users’ hands“.
He went on to express that the new feature is called ‘Magic Crop’ and he has created a short video (we have included it below) demonstrating how this feature works.
Kueck also detailed the background to this update, “It uses a Machine Learning model I developed, and (in contrast to many other Machine Learning based apps) it runs on the iPhone (or iPad), not in the cloud, so the photo data stays on the user’s device. And it is really fast too (at least on recent iPhones). On my iPhone 11 Pro the segmentation takes 130 ms, and I am sure it will be faster still on the iPhone 12. I’ll find out later today, when my wife’s 12 mini arrives”.
Juxtaposer is a fee paying app and costs 2.99 USD but of course, this is a free update if you have previously purchased this app.
This short video shows some examples of the new Magic Crop feature in Juxtaposer version 4.
