Mobile Photography & Art – Portrait of an Artist – Seeing Through The Eyes Of Juta Jazz
We are delighted to bring to you the fifth in our brand new series of interviews within our Portrait of an Artist column entitled ‘Seeing through the eyes…’. This is a section that has been created by our wonderful Portrait of an Artist Editor, Ile Mont. Mont has been inspired by the life and works of Carolyn Hall Young, as so many of us have. Young was the main contributor to our Portrait of an Artist Flickr pool and filled it with portraits of so many wonderful people, not only of herself. It is for this reason that Mont wanted to create this section, to enable us to view the artists style through their own eyes. At the end of each interview, Mont will keep Young’s tradition alive, with a portrait of herself, seen through the eyes of the artist. In this case, you will see that at the end of this interview there is a portrait of Mont, seen through the eyes of Juta Jazz, what a gift!

Would you like to introduce yourself?
I was born in Lithuania and I am currently based in Cyprus. I gained a ballet artist degree at M.K.Ciurlionis School of Arts in Lithuania. My studies were also enriched with music, acting and arts. I worked in musical theater there. Later, I studied Graphic Design in Cyprus and I am currently working in this field. All of this knowledge and experience gave me opportunity to express myself in the form I’m representing today – Mobile Art, which I discovered for myself in 2012.
The main theme I’m focusing on in my works is human body and movement. Through this connection I can show my inside world – state of mind and soul. I am interested in using movement as a main theme also in my abstracts. I love to recreate my vision with photo mixtures and a lot of apps.
I have had the privilege to exhibit worldwide: USA, Italy, France, Canada, Cyprus, Brazil, Spain. I have also won several international awards.
Can you describe the time when you first realised that creating was something you absolutely had to do?
It was in my early childhood, when I was 9 years old and I started studying in a school of arts. It it was the time, when I understood, that my self-expression will be visualised through art.
What are you trying to communicate with your art?
The observer, whom my art says something or touches him through his personal prism.
Why portraits and self portraits?
I’m not big traveler, I have limited time to observe the environment or town. So, most of the time I’m traveling purely in my thoughts and dreams, choosing myself for visual realisation of following.
What do you think are the ups and downs about working with your own image?
I count this as an advantage, because I am not afraid to show myself in any moods or feelings that I am expressing at the creative moment, just exposing myself for judgement as I am, completely open or naked – the truth of my soul. To work with others maybe will inhibit a little, my freedom to express.
Is there an artwork you are most proud of?
I can’t choose one, they are all so close to me, but are some, that won international awards, prizes, like “staying here”, “accumulation”, “king’s new clothes”. Yes, they lift me up.
How do you know when a work is finished?
Usually I’m working several days on an image, maybe one week, editing until the moment, when I cannot find anything more to add or correct, it feels like yes, this is the vision I had, here I am…
What kind of creative patterns, routines or rituals do you have?
Usually I’m working on my idea or vision, that gave me the move for new work, until I clearly see the image in my mind, later starting realisation.
What inspires you?
Something, that emotionally touched me at the specific moment of my life, the state of mind, that I was at that situation. Something, that I want to give the name or image later.
What are your favorite tools and apps while creating?
Currently I am using Procreate, Stackables, ArtRage, ArtStudio, Snapseed, IColorama.
What’s the best advice you ever had about how to be more creative?
Maybe I haven’t had advice, until now, but what really makes me move forward are the challenges, groups and competitions, organised from well known mobile art supporters and publishers.
What advice would you share with us?
……stay creative…..explore yourself…..share yourself…..love the others……

Ile Mont
Ileana Mont Born in Mexico City, Ileana is a professional in graphic communications and advertising. She studied in San Diego, CA. in the United States and later on she returned to Mexico City where she worked as a copywriter, graphic designer and creative director for several advertising agencies, until she realized she had a more artistic calling and a very strong feeling for painting and photography. She learned about painting techniques with Mexican artist Irma Grizá and engaged in developing and combining her photography and computer graphics skills through her visual expression. She is now an independent visual artist and photographer and has been featured in some important blogs about mobile art and photography. Ileana enjoys looking for the beauty out of ordinary things and the special things of our everyday lives.
