This weeks Saturday Poetry, matched with mobile photography/art is a poem entitled ‘Purple Elegy’ by Rowan Ricardo Phillips. Born and raised in New York City, poet, literary and art critic, and translator Rowan Ricardo Phillips earned a BA at Swarthmore College and a PhD at Brown University. He is the author of the poetry collections The Ground (2012) and Heaven (2015), which was a finalist for the National Book Award. In addition to his collections of poetry, Phillips is author of the critical volume When Blackness Rhymes with Blackness (2010). Sony World Photography Awards 2016 Grand Prize Winners Announced
I was delighted to spend this morning at Somerset House, London, host to the Sony World Photography Awards in association with the World Photography Organisation. I enjoyed spending time with the main curator of this exhibition, as she walked me through each image and category. Many of the photographers were also present, having been flown in from around the world. The exhibition sold out last year and this years show features over 500 images of the winning and shortlisted photographers of the awards across both the East and West Wings of Somerset House. Mobile Movie Competition with FiLMiC Pro App
FiLMiC Pro is one of the leading professional mobile movie app’s available and today they have launched their Second Short Film Competition with over $25,000 in Prizes. The competition period runs from now until 27th May, 2016. There are five categories and one special jury prize to the best film by a female mobile film maker. The categories include, fiction, documentary, music, places and experimental. The video must be no longer than five minutes in length and must be shot with a minimum of 70% FiLMiC Pro.
