Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 11 November 2018
‘Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism‘ what perfect timing, if you pardon the pun. Kristen R Ghodsee has published a thoroughly researched exploration proclaiming that capitalism is bad for women. She argues, adopting some ideas from socialism ‘women will have better lives’ and of course, this includes sex. Ghodsee, an acclaimed ethnographer and professor of Russian and East European Studies, spent years researching what happened to women in countries that transitioned from state socialism to capitalism. In this book, she analysed many facets of a woman’s life – work, parenting, sex and relationships, community and authority. One chapter, entitled “Women: Like Men, But Cheaper,” she discusses women in the…

Mobile Photography – App of the Day Recrop (previously known as AntiCrop) by TouchRetouch Developers ADVA Soft
We are delighted today to annouce our App of the Day Recrop. This is an updated app, which was previously known as AntiCrop) by the developers of the uber popular TouchRetouch app, ADVA Soft. ReCrop has become more composition orientated as opposed to AntiCrop. It gives the operator a second chance to reframe your original shots, post capturing – allowing you to crop, uncrop and straighten. The update, is not just all that though, there’s also a newly improved algorithm, meaning this app is now even better at filling in the expanded areas based on the content surrounding it and works best with uniform backgrounds. Straightening is lossless, just as…

Mobile Photography – TrueView Interview – ‘The Pregnant Moment’ with Liliana Schwitter from Switzerland
Our TrueView Interview section is an area where we ask one singular question, to mobile photographers and artists and it is captured to video. This time, I have asked mobile artists to consider their work within a story telling/narrative framework. My thoughts behind this, include an 18th century thesis, ‘Laocoon: An Essay on the Limits of Painting and Poetry‘, Gotthold Lessing argued that although painting could not communicate narrative in the sense of telling a story, it could imply drama by aspiring to capture the “pregnant moment”. In photography, this idea thrives as the “decisive moment” first introduced by Henri Cartier-Bresson and his followers. Therefore, my question to a mobile…

I was so saddened to read yesterday a post by a very respected mobile photographer and artist – Armineh Hovanesian about one of her friends who tragically died, attempting to rescue her friend from drowning in the Caspian Sea. Hovaneisan describes her friend, Vane, as “young and extremely talented, with a big heart, full of courage, even to the very last minutes of her life”. To honor her memory, with the help of talented artists and volunteers, Hovaneisan is hosting a silent auction at the Bridge of Health’s Glow Gala. Some of the incredible art in this auction is mobile and some traditional, all are stunning! Please take a look…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 22 October 2017
“Be wild, that is how to clear the river. The river does not flow in polluted, we manage that. The river does not dry up, we block it. If we want to allow it its freedom, we have to allow our ideational lives to be let loose, to stream, letting anything come, initially censoring nothing. That is creative life.” This is a passage from a wonderful book, that you may have already read, it’s not new. It’s entitled “Women who run with the Wolves: Contacting the Power of the Wild Woman”, written and thoroughly researched by Dr Clarissa Pinkola Estes. This book was recommend to me by an incredibly talented Vogue photographer that I have…
