Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 19 August 2018
A choreographed multimedia showcase devised with over thirty of the very best mobile photographers and artists from around the world today. This week we bring you an intense mystical piece, one that forcefully confronts our frailty, as we lurch poleaxed by grief from one image, only to be reanimated with cryptic, expressionistic neoclassical, to the next. Viewing this is a raw process, as is our capacity to create a new life and redefine what an artist means, simultaneously navigating modern life and all of its entails…Enjoy! Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. If you would like your work to be considered for entry in to our weekly…

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 5 August 2018
Photographer, Mary McCartney (Paul’s daughter), with whom I used to work at a London photo agency said, “I’m embarrassed to say that my main camera is my iPhone”. That’s not to say she doesn’t use 35 mm film, a Leica in fact, or a DSLR, even a Polaroid, but what she loves about her iPhone is ‘how immediate it is‘. Contrasing with Grayson Perry, artist confession, ‘the cameraphone has made the forest of glowing screens ubiquitous in museums, galleries and at events. Maybe I’m a snob, but it’s put me off photography’. We take thousands and thousands of pictures, every single day, do we treasure them? Some we do, each represents…

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 22 July 2018
This weeks Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group Showcase is beautifully variegated with each image, slowly dissolving into the next. But this is no means a dillydally, this is sumptuous art that has been carefully created throughout the week. This art is bound by love, my love, “Love is the emblem of eternity; it confounds all notion of time; effaces all memory of a beginning, all fear of an end”, wrote the Swiss author Madame de Staël (1766-1817). Enjoy! Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. If you would like your work to be considered for entry in to our weekly Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group, please…

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 15 July 2018
‘How to fail’ is a podcast series by journalist and novelist Elizabeth Day, whereupon she interviews celebrities and asks them to list three examples, demonstrating their failures in life. Perhaps, not surprisingly, men somewhat balked at the idea that they’d failed at anything and when pressed, admitted to losing tennis matches, or the inability to get souffles to rise, whereas women confessed they had trouble limiting the list to just three failures. Naturally, my thoughts drifted to my own failures, where to start… trying too hard to find love as a teenager complete with ‘mistakes’…, not selling my first cottage before the property crash in 1990 when I was 21,…

‘The Big Picture’ is an idiom we use for a number of expressions. As a noun, it may mean the overall scheme of something important, as opposed to the significant details. As an adjective it can be used to describe a scheme, such as ‘these are big picture projections, we’ll sort the details out later”. We also use it informally in conversation, such as one I was having with my eldest son this morning over breakfast, (he’s home from university). He was explaining, rather alarming to me how at a nightclub last night, he narrowly avoided being stabbed because of his ability to ‘see the big picture’ and managed to…

Mobile Photography – Portrait of an Artist – Twenty Seventh Video Showcase
We are delighted to present our 27th Portrait of an Artist Video Showcase. Ile Mont our highly talented Editor for our Portrait of an Artist Column has curated the most astonishing showcase. Each image is related to the previous and the ensuing, the personal associations that underpin their selection remain mysterious. Entirely intentional, this is a bold and atypical showcase, wholly satisfying, signalling a shift away from poetic documentary and towards conceptualism. Enjoy! (Foreword by Joanne Carter) If you are not a member of our Facebook group… we highly recommend that you join us! This is our space for sharing newsworthy information and conducting discussions (what, when, where, why and…

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 10 June 2018
“Happily ever after is a very relative thing. I’m grateful that I get to be alive”, this is one of the many excerpts from the deepest conversations I had for many years, with our mutual friend, dear Carolyn Hall Young. I miss her immensely, everyday and everyone I’ve ever spoken to, who has known her, has the same feelings. Why is it that some people make such an impact on our lives, out of the thousands and thousands that we know now or will know, what is it, that pushes them into our hearts and keeps them there? There are many answers to this complex question and I would say…

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 27 May 2018
This whole showcase is theatre. We open with ‘Red Heart (peel)’ by highly accomplished mobile artist, Poetic Medium who describes her inspiration of her work (in our interview in full here), as ‘the poetry of modern living’. It is an expression of the beliefs of the majority, I would say. Poetic Medium, understands that art should be experienced by both body and mind, by hands, touch as well as eyes and sight. This showcase expresses this view, my curation is not always to create something wholly new but to draw attention to what is already there. As you penetrate this body of art, you’ll become aware of its fluidity and…

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 20 May 2018
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style”, Maya Angelou – I couldn’t agree more… What’s happening now in the mobile art and photography scene, as in so many genres of art right now, is a revolt. It’s been building for sometime, but there’s now more urgency. And with that, artists are implored with a range of apocalyptic anxieties. Change is on the cards, however mindful we are aware of this pictorial elegance, we need to support it with passionate pleas and deft authority. At TheAppWhisperer we have a special relationship with…
