What Might Have Happened If Microsoft Had Bought Motorola?
Unless you’ve had your head in the sand over the past 24 hours you would have heard that Google announced they will pay $12.5 billon for Motorola. But what you might not have heard was that Microsoft were also in the running but didn’t offer nearly as much cash. We all know, money talks, and it certainly did the talking for Google who will hold onto 17,000 US patents with as many as 7,500 still pending – this was the big draw for both companies, other than the obvious Android customer base.
Redmond Pie have a great sum up today, discussing the where’s and wherefore’s if Microsoft had actually stumped up enough cash and swept Motorola off their feet instead of Google, and what now for Android? Looks like Apple may well face some legal challenges in the future.
