Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr/Instagram Group Showcase – 7 November 2021

I recently completed an essay addressing how the visual work of Rosy Martin, informed by psychotherapeutic theory, links personal memory to the construction of self. I will publish it soon but
it concludes “notable psychotherapist, Sigmund Freud had two photographs on his desk, one of a patient looking well, hopeful and healthy at the start of therapy and another at the end of their therapy looking dejected, depressed and beaten by life. Freud encouraged his patients to bring him their dreams, one cannot help but ponder, knowing what we now know of phototherapy, whether bringing their photographs would have made this therapy more accessible“. Having always walked to my own offbeat rhythm, as a sensitive, single-minded woman who in the early days, somehow managed to enter the predominantly male mainstream photographic press, whilst simultaneously creating work that showcased difference: the otherness of loners, dreamers, outsiders, the misunderstood and mentally ill people, with all their rare beauty and their often brutally exposed “ugly parts”, photography set me free, before I found it, my overarching energy was lost and this weeks showcase demonstrates I’m not alone. Together we achieve a celebration of the dream of life, confirming each artists talent within this remarkable community, aligned with a strong sense of itself.

If you would like your work to be considered for entry into our weekly Mobile Photography and Art Flickr showcase, please submit it to our dedicated group, here. Alternatively if you’re an Instagram user just tag your images with #theappwhisperer and we’ll pick you up.
