Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Welcome and Fourth Challenge – ‘Connecting’
“It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter” Alfred Eisenstaedt Hello Everyone! We are in the process of curating our July StreetWise showcase and wanted to thank you all for submitting such great images – we look forward to sharing it with you soon! The theme of our next challenge is ‘Connecting’. Lately we have been exposed to many images from the streets around the world in the media. As photography is such a powerful tool for expressing feelings and is sometimes more powerful than words, we thought this would be a good way to highlight street photos that illustrate the ways in which we…

Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Third Challenge Results – Minimalism
Welcome to our Third StreetWise Challenge Showcase – ‘Minimalism’. We are thrilled to share it with you! “Anyone can make the simple complicated; creativity makes the complicated simple” Charles Mingus. We were thrilled by your photographs submitted for our StreetWise Minimalism Challenge. This theme was indeed challenging, and Lee and I were so happy to see the wonderful displays of ‘creativity’ utilised by our group to come up with an eclectic array of images. Thank you so much for participating and rising to the occasion to inspire us once again with your photographs. We hope you enjoy the showcase as much as we enjoyed putting it together! Many congratulations to…

Mobile Photography – StreetWise Showcase – June 2016
“There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.” Robert Frank We were thrilled and particularly moved by your photos submitted to our StreetWise Flickr group and chose images for the showcase that are in keeping with our group’s intention and guidelines “We believe that it is important to focus on the key aspects of street photography composition, timing, juxtaposition, catching the decisive moment rather than relying on too much aping. We therefore feel that aping should be kept to a minimum cropping, tweaking exposure, colour, adding a grain or texture is ok but we would like to see you steer away from overly app’ed images…

Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Welcome and Third Challenge – ‘Minimalism’
“I only know how to approach a place by walking. For what does a street photographer do but walk and watch and wait and talk, and then watch and wait some more, trying to remain confident that the unexpected, the unknown, or the secret heat of the known awaits just around the corner.” Alex Webb Hello everyone! The theme of our next challenge is ‘Minimalism’ and will run until June 30th, 2016. We hope you will enjoy this theme and that you may see your street environment in a new way and from a different perspective. Often this way of capturing the streets entails finding an appropriate background, and then…

Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Second Challenge Results – Shadows
Welcome to our Second StreetWise Challenge Showcase – ‘Shadows’. We are thrilled to share it with you! “Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” Elliott Erwitt We hope that you found this to be an inspiring theme – perhaps seeing the streets around you and those that inhabit them in a new way and perhaps from a perspective that you may not have noticed before. The most difficult part of curating the showcases is choosing a limited number of photos from all of those that were submitted – thank you so…

Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Welcome and Second Challenge
“Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.” Greetings everyone! Welcome to our second StreetWise Mobile Photography Showcase Challenge. The theme this time is shadows – to shoot street photographs that have shadows in them in black and white, color, or both. Capturing shadows can add an element of depth and visual interest to an image, they can change the mood, enhance the composition, create interesting patterns and shapes, or highlight a subject. Sometimes, the details that we don’t see by the presence of a shadow are more interesting than seeing the subject matter itself. There are endless possibilities whichever way you choose to include shadows in…

Welcome to our May 2016 StreetWise Showcase – we are thrilled to share it with you! “A hundredth of a second here, a hundredth of a second there – even if you put them end to end, they still only add up to one, two, perhaps three seconds, snatched from eternity.” Robert Doisneau We were moved by your photos submitted to our ‘StreetWise’ Flickr group and chose images for the Showcase that are in keeping with our group’s intention and guidelines – “We believe that it is important to focus on the key aspects of the craft of street photography – composition, timing, juxtaposition, catching that decisive moment – rather…
