Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 10 September 2017
As I created this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group showcase, Orfeo et Eurydice: Melodie for Piano Solo performed by James Rhodes played and soothed me, this beautiful rendition will likely reduce you to tears. Rhodes is a highly accomplished concert pianist and a man whose personal memoir is so raw and harrowing that the court of appeal initially prevented him from publishing it, the ban was lifted and his book ‘Instrumental: A Memoir of Madness, Medication and Music‘ which includes a Spotify playlist, is a heartbreakingly difficult read. Music saved Rhodes and he makes no bones about it. ‘Plot 29‘ by Allan Jenkins, Observer Food Monthly editor is…

“Individuals often withhold help because they are uncertain about whether beneficiaries will appreciate their assistance. Expressions of gratitude can signify that a beneficiary values, needs, and accepts one’s assistance. Previous research has shown that grateful feelings enable people to savour positive experiences, cope with stress, and strengthen social relationships. A disposition toward gratitude is also associated with higher levels of subjective well-being, demonstrating that counting one’s blessings can increase positive emotions and health”, Francis Flynn, Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Stanford. Appreciation is one of life’s great motivators, when we take the time to let people know that we value them, it naturally inspires them to continue doing even more.…

“There is a form of envy of which I frequently have seen examples, in which an individual tries to obtain something by bullying. If, for instance, I enter a place where many are gathered, it often happens that one or another right away takes up arms against me by beginning to laugh; presumably he feels that he is being a tool of public opinion. But lo and behold, if I then make a casual remark to him, that same person becomes infinitely pliable and obliging. Essentially it shows that he regards me as something great, maybe even greater than I am: but if he can’t be admitted as a participant…

‘Only dedicated circles can give birth to something new‘, a quote by a circle of African wise women, capturing an important lesson in life, engagement starts small and requires a team of committed people. This quote is also functional to TheAppWhisperer and Mobile Photography and Art. Each artist featured in this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Showcase is dedicated and emotionally engaged with the present and future of our art. They are also committed to initiating and implementing all the changes we need to bring about, to move forward. We as a group are willing to respect each other and each others work. TheAppWhisperer is a holding space, for the…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 30 July 2017
Life is full of meaning, each moment that we live it, we experience life at its most paramount. We don’t need to travel to distant monasteries or wade through volumes of text in enormous libraries. Life is not a great secret, life is real, untapped right here, right now. At TheAppWhisperer I constantly strive to bring a culture of belonging, inclusion, purpose, storytelling and transcendence because fundamentally that is what life is about. It is how I live in my private life, it brings meaning into my family and it is that inspiration that all of you bring to our community. TheAppWhisperer is not only about the very best mobile…

“The desire for security and the feeling of insecurity are the same thing. To hold your breath is to lose your breath. A society based on the quest for security is nothing but a breath-retention contest in which everyone is as taut as a drum and as purple as a beet“, as said by Alan Watts in his book ‘An Antidote to the Age of Anxiety’. As we are drawn to this weeks mobile photography and art showcase, we witness artists’ security and their insecurities. Essentially, in this world, there is no security and yet we are all guilty for trying to grasp at it. Our anxieties are linked to…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 16 July 2017
Seduction has its own narrative and this weeks mobile photography and art showcase is arranged accordingly. How far you can go is a question in art, as in life and in mobile art life, there’s no limit. It’s been said that the art of seduction is rarely seductive but this of course depends on your own view, function before fantasy or vice versa. In England, a psychological study revealed the secret that it’s said history’s greatest seducers have known all along, a sense of humour. Particularly and most likely biased, a British self-deprecating humour apparently. The most important thing is not to take ourselves too seriously, outlaw pomposity and self…

“The past only comes back‘, wrote Virginia Woolf in her unfinished memoir, “when the present runs so smoothly that it is like the sliding surface of a deep river. Then one sees through the surface to the depths“. I confess, I am a huge fan of Virginia Woolf, the English writer who is considered to be one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century and essentially (to me) a pioneer in the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device. I ‘discovered’ Woolf’s work as a young girl, long before my eldest son attended boarding school, in Lewes, where she died, drowning herself in the River Ouse, not…

“There are sights too beautiful to swallow. They stay on the rim of the eye; it cannot contain them“, this is a quote from a beautiful book I am currently reading and highly recommend, To the River by Olivia Laing. It is not only poignant for this life itself but also for this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Showcase. This showcase is the work of abundantly gifted mobile artists from around the world. Each image goes straight to the emotional truth of life today. There’s a sullen lust in the portraiture, a heaviness in the street scenes and lyrical joy in the floral portraiture. This art is inspirational, fascinating and…
