40 UK photographers recognised in the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards, the world’s most diverse photography awards

2018-02-28 / Comments Off on 40 UK photographers recognised in the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards, the world’s most diverse photography awards

As a proud member of The World Photography Organisation, I am delighted to announce the judges of the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards today honor the work of 40 British and UK based photographers by shortlisting and commending their photographs as the top 50 in the world in the Awards’ Professional, Open, Youth and Student Focus competitions. Of the 81 nationalities represented in this year’s shortlist and commended lists, the UK has the highest number of shortlisted photographers across the competitions, and the third highest number of honored photographers in the shortlist and commended lists. Produced by the World Photography Organisation, the Sony World Photography Awards is the world’s most…

Mobile Photography Awards Sixth Annual Awards – Results!

2017-01-31 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography Awards Sixth Annual Awards – Results!

We’re delighted to reveal that the Mobile Photography Awards (MPA) 2016 Results have now been announced. As always we (I speak as a member of the Jury) were succumbed by the wealth of talent displayed across our screens. We’ve had more entries to this competition than ever before and the quality of submissions has been totally outstanding across all the categories. Personally, it was an honour for me to be asked to be a key member of this jury for the 5th consecutive year by founder of the Mobile Photography Awards, Daniel Berman and also to serve with James Bacchi, Annette Schutz, Evgeny Tchebotarev, Jen Pollack Bianco, Brendan O Se,…

Mobile Photography / Art New Year Resolutions 2017 From Around The World

      2017-01-04 / 2 Comments

When we think of a new year, we sometimes think of a fresh start and with that, our minds start racing with ways to improve on what we did last year. Sometimes, New Year Resolutions are ambitious, sometimes less so but all are supposed to hold the promise of commitment for the entire year. This can be difficult to achieve and it can be hard to keep up the enthusiasm but not impossible. It’s important to not only enjoy big goals but also to enjoy the little things, looking at the stars at night, walking barefoot in the grass… essentially bring more peace to our lives. In many ways, following…

Flickr Group Showcase – TheAppWhisperer (TAW) – June 1, 2014

      2014-06-01 / 4 Comments

We are utterly delighted to publish this weeks’ Flickr Group Showcase, so many of you have been completely inspired! Your work is exceptional, eminent and phenomenal. We lead this week with a wonderful image by lorenka61 – this image really struck a chord with me. It reminded me of Mya Angelou’s first book ‘I know why the caged bird sings’ and of course, unfortunately she passed on this week, so I thought this would make a wonderful lead image. We then pass onto a similar and excellent one by Roger Guetta and then move into some incredibly powerful portraiture, we walk into street and then wade into some wonderful seascapes…

We’re delighted to reveal that the Mobile Photography Awards (MPA) 2013 Winners and Honorable mentions have now been announced. We’ve had more entries to this competition than ever before and the quality of submissions has been totally outstanding across all the categories. For my part, I was Lead Judge for one of the largest categories, if not the largest category ‘Digital Fine Art’. I am very pleased to announce that Cedric Blanchon took First Place here. The image that Cedric contributed ‘Unilateral Selection’ matched the criteria for this…

Olloclip Tutorial – Creating Abstract Images With The Olloclip Macro Lens

      2012-08-08 / 6 Comments

The Olloclip lens system consists of three lenses. A wide-angle, fish-eye and a macro lens. The macro lens magnifies your image roughly around ten times. My instructions for this tutorial sounded like something from Mission Impossible….. “Mr. Hayes, should you accept this assignment you must create abstract images using only the Olloclip macro lens. Your images must show what is possible with this lens and not rely on your skills with apps….” (sorry about that David, actually sounds a bit like a James Bond assignment, J). Okay…I’m…
