Mobile Photography & Art Flickr and Instagram Showcase – 31 January 2021

2021-01-31 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr and Instagram Showcase – 31 January 2021

There is an area of photography that really interests me, actually it’s a ‘technique’ rather than an ‘area’ and it is applied in combination with ‘co-counselling’. It is called ‘visual reframing’ and essentially one image is examined (at a time) and each person discusses what it represents to them and how they would like to ‘change it’.  This is not to mean ‘change it’ in the sense of photo manipulation but therapeutically change the impression of what we think it is about. When you go through the process of ‘reframing’ you’re essentially, internally giving yourself permission to change, to let go, to move on. One thing it is not, is…

In Ways of Seeing, John Berger discusses Rembrandt’s self portrait painting when he was aged 58 and contrasts this with an earlier self portrait painting when he was 28 – thirty years apart, explaining that the latter portrait only reveals ‘an advertisement for the sitter’s good fortune, prestige and wealth’. It was painted in 1634, in the year of Rembrandt’s first marriage. He is flamboyantly showing off his bride, not knowing that withing six years she will be dead. The painting is cited to sum up the happy period of his life. It was also during this period of history that oil painting was betoken to be ‘a celebration of…

My key word for 2021 is ‘Optimism’. Sounds unlikely I know, but I am not deluded. If we don’t have optimism how can we get through the next day? It’s a blessing, not a tragedy, take it daily, in equal measures, once in the morning and before bedtime, with water. Be aware of the side effects, creativity, fantasia, elation and sheer bliss. We need to feel that everything is going to be ok, not only our own sake but more importantly for all who depend and rely on us. We need to be a sea of calm and serenity, taking and absorbing others anxiety and actually it’s a story worth…

Mobile Photography / Art New Year Resolutions 2021 From Artists Throughout The World

2021-01-03 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography / Art New Year Resolutions 2021 From Artists Throughout The World

2020 has been an unstable and blistering year and the idea of making New Year Resolutions for 2021 seems overwhelming. Susan Rennie, an Award Winning Mobile Artist from California, expressed it so well, she wants “to slough off the pandemic carapace of terror, debilitation and devitalisation and recover my pre-pandemic eagerness, energy, enjoyments, explorations in creativity”. And Award Winning artist Lisa Cirenza, who managed to relocate from the UK to France during the pandemic expressed “at one point during my battle with C-Beast, I found I really didn’t think I’d ever have the energy to accept and reflect, to lead a creative life again full of roads unknown“. For Kate…

2020-12-20 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr and Instagram Showcase – 20 December 2020

This weeks mobile photography and art showcase is a narrative on life and for many of us, life right now does not offer the freedom it once did… Freedom seems like a luxury, one we all took for granted.  What connects people in this showcase and our community of artists is the ability to express ourselves in the ways we most discern, through our art and we keep at it. The sheer ingenuity that you will view today is elegant and strong, engaging and questioning each piece created by independent minds producing compelling artistry. Enjoy. Thank you to all the talented artists for submitting your works to our showcase this week. If…

Portraits and Dreams a rare book by Wendy Ewald has been revised and expanded since it was first published in 1985. Officially described as ‘an American masterpiece‘ and no wonder. I have the newly updated version which has already sold out. The content a completely fascinating account of children living in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in 1975. Ewald’s photography project enabled the children themselves to take photos of their dreams and in somecases nightmares, as she gave each child their own camera to capture what they saw and what they imagined through the lens. This book demonstrates not only the fantasy but also the reality of these children…

Developing an impregnable sense of self confidence should be the basis for a contented life but however, it is often the first stumbling block. Artists’ falter more than many professions with this, perhaps not so much as comedians, both occupations involve risks but without taking them, we cannot grow. Self-acceptance should never be elusive, it should be something we spend time on encouraging in ourselves as well as honouring in others, never losing the former. Eventually this Covid-cloud we are all living beneath will pass over, but whilst it is still here, its more important than ever to be gentle with our handling of ourselves and with each other. Increased…

When I think of still life, I revert back to its origins in painting. The ‘still’ often represented as flowers, fruit or other decorative displays. Created in history as a means for an artist to practice techniques but also to portray their wealth. It also acts as a reflection of time. What we never see is the human figure, still life is a means to communicate truths and stories about humanity. Still Life is all around us, it’s where we once were, or where we will be next. It offers another sense of life, a different way of seeing. It matters because we matter, still lives is what keeps us…
