“Whenever the world throws rose petals at you, which thrill and seduce the ego, beware” Anne Lamott. I was told a similar thing, not quite so poetically, when I was promoted and became the technical editor of a print camera magazine, many years ago… it’s long gone. “Many congratulations Joanne, but keep those feet on the ground“, cautioned the main editor of the title. Sound advice, but doesn’t it get a little boring sometimes? For years now, I’ve noticed that I have become more and more sensible and it’s getting frustrating. I’m organised, at least in my mind, it might not show physically in my office. I keep my children’s…
Assignment – ‘Melancholy’ – Result and Third Essay with Peter Wilkin – @ for our forthcoming book – Away with Words
With two chapters behind us, our third chapter begins to take shape for our forthcoming book ‘Away with Words’, this will be published early next year. Our ‘assignment’ for this chapter was ‘Melancholy’ and we have selected Peter Wilkin’s image from the selection we were sent, as we feel it epitomises this subject, for our third of twelve 1000 word essays, personally written by myself. This non fiction work merges discursive scholarship with what may be construed as personal flights of fancy. That is not to say it will disappoint, moreover I have given myself a far and wide range to delve into photography, literature, art, theory, design and music…
Mobile Photography/Art Pic of the Day (1,021) via Instagram
Isabel Afonso is a major talent by most if not all standards of mobile photography and art and the creator of some of the most stunning images in the history of this medium. Anyone, fortunate enough to view Afonso’s work will find them among the most beautiful physical entities mobile photography and art, can produce. I have studied her work and ethos for some time and it was this image that she tagged to #theappwhisperer on Instagram today that convinced me to formally invite her to our Online Gallery, I hope she accepts our invitation. Here’s day one thousand and twenty one of our mobile photography/art Pic of the Day…

‘How I Did It’™ with Rad Drew – Using the iPhone Portrait Mode and SnapSeed Portrait Editor
It’s great to be back with another How I Did It!™ video tutorial for TheAppWhisperer community! This video explores the 1-2 knockout combination of the iPhone’s Portrait Mode with SnapSeed’s Portrait editor tool. This video focuses on editing images taken with the dual lens iPhones. In this case the portraits were made with the iPhone XS Max, but any of the dual lens iPhones from the 7 Plus to the X can be used. In fact, you can use SnapSeed’s Portrait editor on any portrait, not just those taken with dual lens cameras. In this video, editing occurs in both the iPhone photo editor, and in SnapSeed’s Portrait Editing tool.…
Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2019
Last night, if you were following my antics on Facebook, you would’ve noticed that I spent it at the Mall Galleries, The Mall, London, SW1, uber chic. The occasion was The Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2019 Awards. I was on the Advisory Panel and TheAppWhisperer was a Media Partner. It was a fabulous feeling to view our logo and bio on the walls. The overall winner of was a magnificent image entitled ‘Cauldron Noodles’, of a celebration of the goddess Nuwa, taken by Chinese photographer Jianhui Liao. Liao was presented with the £5000 prize by Andy Macdonald, who has headed up Pink Lady® in the UK, headline…
