Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 27 August 2017
“There is a form of envy of which I frequently have seen examples, in which an individual tries to obtain something by bullying. If, for instance, I enter a place where many are gathered, it often happens that one or another right away takes up arms against me by beginning to laugh; presumably he feels that he is being a tool of public opinion. But lo and behold, if I then make a casual remark to him, that same person becomes infinitely pliable and obliging. Essentially it shows that he regards me as something great, maybe even greater than I am: but if he can’t be admitted as a participant…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 16 July 2017
Seduction has its own narrative and this weeks mobile photography and art showcase is arranged accordingly. How far you can go is a question in art, as in life and in mobile art life, there’s no limit. It’s been said that the art of seduction is rarely seductive but this of course depends on your own view, function before fantasy or vice versa. In England, a psychological study revealed the secret that it’s said history’s greatest seducers have known all along, a sense of humour. Particularly and most likely biased, a British self-deprecating humour apparently. The most important thing is not to take ourselves too seriously, outlaw pomposity and self…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 9 July 2017
“The past only comes back‘, wrote Virginia Woolf in her unfinished memoir, “when the present runs so smoothly that it is like the sliding surface of a deep river. Then one sees through the surface to the depths“. I confess, I am a huge fan of Virginia Woolf, the English writer who is considered to be one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century and essentially (to me) a pioneer in the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device. I ‘discovered’ Woolf’s work as a young girl, long before my eldest son attended boarding school, in Lewes, where she died, drowning herself in the River Ouse, not…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Showcase – 23 April 2017
When considering what is the most human desire of all, we know we have a lot to choose from. Think of the art of giving, every little nuance of slow, artful arousal and then think of the generous all encompassing multiple physical relief, release, the surrender… Think of the mental, spiritual and physical emotion. Perhaps, the most intense human desire, is the ‘longing to be understood’. It’s something we all want and it is essential to our psyche. This weeks Mobile Photography and Art Showcase demonstrates the longing to be understood, clearly. Each artists’ work stands out, each of their works portrays private desires as well as public obligations.…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 26 February 2017
When I view all of your images each week, I feel the love that you have bestowed into each one with your devotion and also with your skills and it warms me and this is one of the many reasons I create this showcase each and every week because I want your work to be seen and to be shown. I count my blessings everyday to be in this position, where I can show the world, your art. In between many things this week, I have been reading a book entitled “The Art of Loving” by Erich Fromm. There’s a paragraph in this book, that I want to share…

Mobile Photography Awards Sixth Annual Awards – Results!
We’re delighted to reveal that the Mobile Photography Awards (MPA) 2016 Results have now been announced. As always we (I speak as a member of the Jury) were succumbed by the wealth of talent displayed across our screens. We’ve had more entries to this competition than ever before and the quality of submissions has been totally outstanding across all the categories. Personally, it was an honour for me to be asked to be a key member of this jury for the 5th consecutive year by founder of the Mobile Photography Awards, Daniel Berman and also to serve with James Bacchi, Annette Schutz, Evgeny Tchebotarev, Jen Pollack Bianco, Brendan O Se,…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase 29 January 2017
“There are so many things that art can’t do. It can’t bring the dead back to life, it can’t mend arguments between friends, or cure AIDS, or halt the pace of climate change. All the same, it does have some extraordinary functions, some odd negotiating ability between people, including people who never meet and yet who infiltrate and enrich each other’s lives. It does have a capacity to create intimacy; it does have a way of healing wounds, and better yet of making it apparent that not all wounds need healing and not all scars are ugly”. Another quote from the book that I am still studying (that I mentioned…

Grand Flickr Group Showcase of 2016 – TheAppWhisperer – Mobile Photography and Art
I had intended to publish our 2016 Grand Flickr Group Showcase of Mobile Photography and Art on Christmas Day this year. I had prepared most of it ahead of time and was relatively well organised to go live on 25 December. However, events took a turn for the worse and as I awoke after a thoroughly turbulent night on the morning of 24 December, I picked up my phone and saw a Facebook message coming through from a friend expressing how sorry she was for the loss of Carolyn Hall Young a few hours before. For a few moments, I thought I was still in the midst of the wretched…
