    Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 4 October 2018

    2018-11-04 / 1 Comment

Mobile photography has capsulated self portraiture, or selfies as they are known. Offering the ultimate notion of control, you’re not trusting someone else to capture you, you’re deciding how to frame yourself, you’re not relying on someone else to make you look good. The paradox at the heart of selfies is that they masquerade as a candid shot but in reality they are posed and often heavily edited. But at least for the younger audience, looking good, is not good enough, you need to look good in extreme scenarios. There’s a blurring between the lines of reality and fantasy, until they collapse into one another. Such was the case this…

    Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 27 May 2018

    2018-05-27 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 27 May 2018

This whole showcase is theatre. We open with ‘Red Heart (peel)’ by highly accomplished mobile artist, Poetic Medium who describes her inspiration of her work (in our interview in full here), as ‘the poetry of modern living’. It is an expression of the beliefs of the majority, I would say. Poetic Medium, understands that art should be experienced by both body and mind, by hands, touch as well as eyes and sight. This showcase expresses this view, my curation is not always to create something wholly new but to draw attention to what is already there. As you penetrate this body of art, you’ll become aware of its fluidity and…

2018-02-18 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 18 February 2018

We have a choice, to give ourselves permission to go where ever our thoughts take us and when we do that, we can feel the incredibly rush of creativity and excitement this exists within all of us. My body, my choice, turn your fears into excitement, your anxieties into enthusiasm and your passion into energy. The artists in this weeks Showcase have done just that, this is a sumptuous, glorious portrayal of mobile photography and art, today. Each image is individually powerful and together they are extraordinary, rarely have I seen love of art so palpably expressed. Enjoy! Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 7 January 2018

2018-01-07 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 7 January 2018

“Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties“, writes Erich Fromm, one of the most prescient thinkers of the 20th century. Love and creativity play a huge part of my life and it is physical. Love of art, the art of loving, irrational, intellectual, obsessive, insightful. Professor Semir Zeki, a neurobiologist at the University College London, proved in a series of pioneering brain-mapping experiments that viewing art triggers a surge of dopamine, the feel-good chemicial, into the orbito-frontal cortex of the brain, resulting in feelings of intense pleasure, the same part of the brain that is excited, when we fall for someone, romantically. For all of us associated with…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 19 November 2017

2017-11-19 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 19 November 2017

Laying the foundations of Mobile Photography and Art, this weeks Flickr group showcase is as much a meditation on great art as it is also of human passion. Every artist, moreover, perhaps every human knows, has experienced, is experiencing or seeking, passion. Passion does not have to mean sex, or ‘intelligent sex’ as Robert Mapplethorpe described his ‘ideal passion’. No passion for art is a seduction in itself and when you view this showcase, free from all constraints, you will experience the intense relationship, each artist has not only with their art but also with each of us. Enjoy! Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. If you…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 29 October 2017

2017-10-29 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 29 October 2017

This week has been an interesting one, half way through it I spoke with highly talented mobile artist, Jane Schulz on the telephone. Now hearing is not my forte, as many of you know, it comes with the territory of being severely to moderately deaf but I do try. I like to think of myself more as a listener. Anyway, between the bumps, silences and crashes of our telephone call, we discussed the ‘state’ of mobile photography and art today, not so much the talent, which rises each week but more the state of the community. To me, the community is the most important area, it’s one where we conjoin,…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 22 October 2017

2017-10-22 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 22 October 2017

“Be wild, that is how to clear the river. The river does not flow in polluted, we manage that. The river does not dry up, we block it. If we want to allow it its freedom, we have to allow our ideational lives to be let loose, to stream, letting anything come, initially censoring nothing. That is creative life.” This is a passage from a wonderful book, that you may have already read, it’s not new. It’s entitled “Women who run with the Wolves: Contacting the Power of the Wild Woman”, written and thoroughly researched by Dr Clarissa Pinkola Estes. This book was recommend to me by an incredibly talented Vogue photographer that I have…
