Streets Ahead – Thirty Third Edition – Mobile Street Photography
Welcome to the thirty third edition of “Streets Ahead,” a weekly column dedicated to women mobile street photographers. Each week we review and curate work that was submitted to our Flickr Group. In addition to creating a showcase video which features a sampling of submitted work, we also highlight a few images that caught our attention… offering some thoughtful commentary about technique, composition, and subject matter. If you are not a member of our Facebook group… we highly recommend that you join us! This is our space for sharing newsworthy information and conducting discussions (what, when, where, why and how) about Women Photographers/Artists and Street Photography, in general.
So, if you are a woman street photographer, please join our growing community… I’m sure that you will agree that we are a very enthusiastic and supportive group of women!!

Hope you enjoy this week’s showcase…
Bajando geométricamente. Mímesis con el entorno by Montse Abad (@mabadca)
A wonderful mélange of geometry and people. I love that Montse has captured the people in this shot perfectly – they are evenly spaced from each other and the figures create their own dynamic within the geometric shapes. The banister leads our eye and we follow the line as the figures descend down the stairs. The shadows add another element to the composition. Beautifully seen!
King High by Tommy Vohs
Tommy’s use of double exposure really captures the mood of the city here. I love the mixing of the black and white on the edges merging in to the colour, with the bright red car almost in the centre of the image. I feel like the car is bursting out of the pedestrians. Such a perfectly composed blend of people and buildings.
Here I Am, Stuck In The Middle With You by Liz Traynor (@Ferguscat1)
Great title Liz! This image made me laugh… and reading the back story put it into context – people standing in a queue, waiting to get on a scary ride. I’m not sure whether the woman in the middle has caught Liz taking the photo or whether she is looking that way in anticipation of what is to follow! I love that the couple in the foreground are sharing headphones – very cute. A great capture of expressions and a moment.
Wrong Way by Natali Prosvetova (@NatProsvet1)
Perfect title with the man walking the opposite direction to the sign, and then the arrow pointing in the direction that the man is walking. Wonderful composition – lines, geometry, the man captured just at the right time before he disappears behind the sign. Nicely seen Natali!
The Singers by Vivi Hansen Sacredote (@Veevs3)
The ladies look so lovely all dolled up in their coordinating dresses. Vivi has captured the movement and excitement as they make their way down the street. One can almost imagine their performance. Nice use of blur to focus our attention on the ladies.
One in a Million by Heline Lam (@Heline)
I feel the madness of the rush hour in this image. I love that Heline has captured the lady perfectly in the centre of the image – we can almost feel her weariness – that she is in deep thought and can’t wait to get home at the end of a long day. Then in the foreground, we have a blurred image of a man as he walks by. I feel like he too is weary and in deep thought. The two figures feel like they are in their own quiet bubble while the frenzy of the rush hour carries on around them.
