Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 1 July 2018
‘The Big Picture’ is an idiom we use for a number of expressions. As a noun, it may mean the overall scheme of something important, as opposed to the significant details. As an adjective it can be used to describe a scheme, such as ‘these are big picture projections, we’ll sort the details out later”. We also use it informally in conversation, such as one I was having with my eldest son this morning over breakfast, (he’s home from university). He was explaining, rather alarming to me how at a nightclub last night, he narrowly avoided being stabbed because of his ability to ‘see the big picture’ and managed to diffuse the rising tensions among some of the locals and the group he was with. I preferably prefer to examine ‘the big picture’ when considering a photograph of great significance and in this weeks’ flickr group showcase, you will see a vast number of ‘big pictures’. There’s the poetically enigmatic, imbuing the quotidian with luminous alluring images and there’s the more low key, almost conversational style of images in this weeks showcase. Feel the energy and their vibrations, with the subtlest of shifts as one slide dissolves and the next emerges, representing a small gem of close observation and collaboration. Enjoy!
