Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Tenth Challenge “Lines in the Street”
Welcome to our Tenth StreetWise Challenge ‘Lines in the Street.’
This is a fun theme for a challenge and a prevailing one in photography!
“While we are working, we must be conscious of what we’re doing.” Henri Cartier-Bresson
Many street photographers when they go out taking street photos are looking at how they can create strong compositions with the use of lines. Others have predominant lines in their photos without intentionally searching them out, but, the inclusion of lines can help make the image a strong one.
Lines are a powerful tool for directing the viewer’s eye and attention to the main subject of a photograph. Compositional lines can be anything, supplying the photographer an infinite variety to choose from. From the vertical lines of a building, fence, or street light, to the horizontal line of the horizon, structure or sidewalk, diagonal lines that cross frames, to the curved lines of a road or walkway. Lastly, there are converging lines, which merge together and sometimes lead off to a vanishing point. There are simply many ways to use lines in street photography that put the focus on a photograph’s most important point of interest, strike balance in the composition, and set an overall tone that conveys what photographer is feeling.
We are very excited to view your submissions each month and look forward to curating your photographs for the next ‘Lines on the Street’ showcase.
