Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 25 November 2018

“I knew how tight everything was, especially the loss of twenty minutes and I asked the Queen if she would remove the tiara. (I used the word ‘crown’, which was a faux pas). I suggested that a less dressy look might be better. And she said ‘Less dressy!’ What do you think this is?”. A quote from a book that I have been carrying around all week, sent to me personally by my dear colleague at the publishers, Phaidon. ‘Annie Leibovitz At Work’ is a revised and updated edition of the original book of 2008 and I just adore it. It offers more than a glimpse behind the scenes of some of her most famous photographs but also unites technical brilliance with her unerring hard work ethics. I’ve moved from room to room, office to office, tube to tube, pavement to road and this book I have carried with me. Falling in love with Leibovitz has everything to do with the power of her photographs, her words and the tension then the tingling when milk comes and the relief as its devoured fervently.  Sometimes I get so attached to a work of art, whether it be a book, a poem, a picture that I take it with me, like a lover, something that feeds my soul. You’ll feel this too whilst viewing this weeks’ Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group Showcase. Each work feels equally succinct, isolating the moments when new perceptions meet old memories, producing a sudden understanding of what we see in our world. Enjoy!
