Assignment – ‘Beauty and Awe’ – Result and Fourth Essay with Becky Menzies for our Forthcoming Book – Away with Words
With three chapters behind us, we are delighted to publish our fourth chapter for our forthcoming book ‘Away with Words’, this will be published early next year. Our ‘assignment’ for this chapter was ‘Beauty and Awe’ and we have selected Becky Menzies image from the selection we were sent, as we feel it epitomises this subject, for our fourth of twelve 1000 word essays, personally written by myself. This non fiction work merges discursive scholarship with what may be construed as personal flights of fancy. That is not to say it will disappoint, moreover I have given myself a far and wide range to delve into photography, literature, art, theory,…

Assignment ‘Deadpan’ – Result and Eighth Essay with Glenn Homann for our Forthcoming Book – Away with Words
I am truly delighted to publish our eighth essay for our forthcoming book ‘Away with Words‘. Our chapter this time was entitled ‘Deadpan‘ and we received a vast array of submissions. Eventually, we settled on this image by Glenn Homann, we feel it fulfilled the brief for Deadpan, generally meaning devoid of emotion. It is a subject that exists but it seems empty. There is no happiness and there’s no sorrow. It is honest work, it is detached art. It asks more questions than it answers. Many congratulations to Glenn and I hope you all enjoy reading my essay. Please note that this section is not a ‘typical challenge’ section,…

Our new assignment is ‘Deadpan’. We would like to see your interpretations of this assignment. Deadpan… essentially this genre of photography means devoid of emotion. Mobile Photography & Art Showcase – 8 March 2020
Clive James the prolific Austrialian author, poet and broadcaster died late last year. I’ve always been a fan of his work, he made his name as a television critic, essayist and wit but he started as a poet and just over five years ago he was diagnosed with leukaemia, emphysema and kidney failure – he described it as ‘the lot’ and he ended as a poet. There’s a particular story I remember reading about James, it goes like this… One time he was going through a creative dry spell. He had written a play for the London stage and it bombed spectacularly. Not only did it ruin his family financially…
