Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 8 October 2017

2017-10-08 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 8 October 2017

In a spasm of self-love and need, this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Showcase will keep you transfixed as you are guided through a labyrinth of delicious ambiguity. There’s no plot, strands are left deliberately trailing, you’ll find nothing to grab hold of but you will be left feeling entirely satisfied. Each artist has created work that is not just a triumph of psychological insight but also of social observation and storytelling magic. Some work you may favour over another and there is no reconciliation to this paradox. The ferocity of each work of art and each artists’ character behind their work serves as a view to the emotional and…

2017-04-11 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography StreetWise March 2017 Showcase

“Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.” Dorothea Lange Hello everyone! Thank you all for submitting your images to our StreetWise Flickr group during the month of March.  All we can say is “wow!” What incredible images submitted to our group from around the world. It is such an honor to share the showcases with you. Once again, our difficult challenge was to choose such few images for the showcase from all those that were submitted and we want you to know we appreciate each and every post. As a reminder, we choose images for the showcase that are in keeping with our group’s…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Showcase – 19 March 2017

    2017-03-19 / 4 Comments

You may have heard of Dr Megan Poe, she is a 42 year old psychiatrist and associate professor who teaches an undergraduate course on love, which she designed at New York University. It has achieved overwhelming success. The course is called ‘Love Actually’ and attempts to pack as much about the human experience of love in, as is possible. The course leans heavily on the work of Eric Fromm, the psychologist best known for his 1956 book, The Art of Loving, that I mentioned a few weeks ago, here. What I love about the syllabus of this class, is at its core, albeit a psychology class, its emphasis is on…

2017-03-12 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Showcase – 12 March 2017

“Photographs turn the present into past, make contingency into destiny. Whatever their degree of “realism,” all photographs embody a “romantic” relation to reality“, wrote Susan Sontag in the preface to Peter Hujar’s incredible (and now out of print) book ‘Portraits in Life and Death‘. She went on to write, “Photographs instigate, confirm, seal legends. Seen through photographs, people become icons of themselves. Photography converts the world itself into a department store or museum-without-walls in which every subject is depreciated into an article of consumption, promoted into an item for esthetic appreciation. Photography also converts the whole world into a cemetery. Photographers, connoisseurs of beauty, are also — wittingly or unwittingly…

Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Tenth Challenge – ‘Lines in the Street’

2017-03-08 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Tenth Challenge – ‘Lines in the Street’

“Line is a rich metaphor for the artists…” Lance Epslund Hello Everyone! Welcome to our Tenth StreetWise Challenge Showcase  ‘Lines in the Street.’ We are thrilled to share it with you! Thank you so much for participating and sharing your wonderful photographs. Lee and I were delighted by all the beautiful submissions to this fun challenge. Lines denote so many things in photography, boundary, edge, or contour — it is the agent for energy and movement and it was wonderful to see the many ways in which people incorporated lines in their photographs As always, Lee and I hope you enjoy the showcase as much as we enjoyed putting it…

2017-02-26 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 26 February 2017

When I view all of your images each week, I feel the love that you have bestowed into each one with your devotion and also with your skills and it warms me and this is one of the many reasons I create this showcase each and every week because I want your work to be seen and to be shown. I count my blessings everyday to be in this position, where I can show the world, your art.   In between many things this week, I have been reading a book entitled “The Art of Loving” by Erich Fromm.  There’s a paragraph in this book, that I want to share…

Oh gosh, feel the heat in this mobile photography Portrait of an Artist showcase! So many thanks to our Portraiture editor Ile Mont, for curating and nurturing this quality showcase. This is a great driver, translating just how good mobile portraiture really is. Curation and text by Ile Mont Welcome to our twenty fourth Portrait of an Artist Showcase! Grand Flickr Group Showcase of 2016 – TheAppWhisperer – Mobile Photography and Art

    2016-12-28 / 9 Comments

I had intended to publish our 2016 Grand Flickr Group Showcase of Mobile Photography and Art on Christmas Day this year. I had prepared most of it ahead of time and was relatively well organised to go live on 25 December. However, events took a turn for the worse and as I awoke after a thoroughly turbulent night on the morning of 24 December, I picked up my phone and saw a Facebook message coming through from a friend expressing how sorry she was for the loss of Carolyn Hall Young a few hours before. For a few moments, I thought I was still in the midst of the wretched…

“Of course it’s all luck.”  Henri Cartier-Bresson Thank you all so much for inspiring us with your incredible photos – we were quite blown away by the varying depths of creativity in this group! It makes it very difficult for us to choose such few images for the showcase from all those that were submitted. We hope you will enjoy our November showcase as much as Ilana and I enjoyed putting it together! A special thank you to Joanne. As a reminder, we choose images for the showcase that are in keeping with our group’s intention and guidelines  “We believe that it is important to focus on the key aspects…

“My favourite thing,” Diane Arbus once said, “is to go where I’ve never been.” Many of us knowing a thing or two about Arbus, realise she was not only talking about her photography but also her private life, no less her prolonged and incestuous relationship with her older brother. This weeks mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group Showcase, will ensure you travel to a place you have never been. This is a showcase of dramatic compositions and stark contrasts, interwoven with some of the mosts powerful mobile portraits ever made. Enjoy!
