Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Second Flickr Group Showcase

Welcome to the Second Edition of our “StreetWise” Flickr Group Showcase.  StreetWise is a column dedicated to mobile street photography and photographers throughout the world. Vivi Sacerdote Hanson and Sheldon Serkin are the editors of this column and will regularly review and curate work that was submitted to our StreetWise Flickr Group. In addition to creating a showcase video which features a sampling of submitted work, we also highlight a few images that caught our attention… offering some thoughtful commentary about technique, composition, and subject matter. If you are not a member of our Facebook group… we highly recommend that you join us!  This is our space for sharing newsworthy information and conducting discussions (what, when, where, why and how) about Street Photographers/Artists and Street Photography, in general.

• Flickr Group (for weekly showcase submissions)

• Facebook Group (for information sharing/discussions)

This week Sheldon has curated and commented on the images in our first StreetWise Showcase, I am sure you will enjoy this, please take a look…

Many congratulations to the following artists for being featured this week:

ARCH, Rob Pearson-Wright, Armineh Hovanesian, Alejandro Cendan Rodrig, Louise Whiting, rorofot, Ocean Morisset, Roy Savoy, Gina Costa, Lee Atwell, Valentin Dragomir, AJ vdHorst, Julia Nathanson, Gulia Baita, Ile Mont, drzzz1977, Karen Axelrad.

“Black Friday” – Alejandro Cendan Rodrig…

I love the quiet of both the subject and his environment in this image, juxtaposed with the title “Black Friday” and the crazed mob energy it suggests. A telling portrait that invites the viewer in to its stillness.

“Subway PDA” – Ocean Morisset

Flickr link

This photo is a great example of the intimacy that Ocean Morriset routinely captures in his NYC subway work. I love how the man barely hangs onto the bag as he experiences a rapture brought on by his partner’s whispers.

“The Ford Foundation Building” – Roy Savoy

Flickr link

Urbane and timeless, Roy’s image of three figures in the Ford Foundation Building suggests a New York City that may or may not exist.

“Captured” – Gina Costa

I love the narrative potential of this photo, amplified by the subjects’  low placement in the frame and the somewhat off-balance framing. Who are these men? Where are they? What is their relationship? Mysterious and evocative.
