Gray’s Anatomy – ‘Q&A session with Mum’ – By Richard Gray
It’s Friday, so that means it’s Gray’s Anatomy! Each Friday, Richard Gray graces us with his humorous mobile photography column, Gray’s Anatomy and this week is no exception as he spills the beans with his techno chat with his mum. Don’t miss this – over to you Richard (forward by Joanne Carter). ‘As my train pulled out of Euston station, I lost my patience. Tap, tap, tap, set all default preferences in apps, yeah, why not, nothing else seems to be working. I had been getting the same message over and over again telling me to do something that, when I tried to do it, found out it wasn’t possible…

Gray’s Anatomy – At The Android Party – By Richard Gray
One of the first things I did after setting up my new Galaxy was to check out the photo apps available on Android. Of all my friends’ reservations about THE MOVE, this was the one that came up the most. It was a bit like going to a party and looking around the room for familiar faces. Ah Snapseed old chum, good to see you! But there’s something different about you, Snap. Like you’ve got your tie on too tight. Oh right, you downsized on Android. Can you get pills for that? OK, but you’ve got more energy. That’s nice. Other friendly faces in the crowd were Touch Retouch (thank…

Gray’s Anatomy – ‘Moving house from Apple Gardens to Galaxy Crescent’ – By Richard Gray
So after much heart-searching, a few days ago I moved out of Apple Gardens and moved into Galaxy Crescent. The thing we really lovely about the new place is the garden. Look how big it is, isn’t it lovely! We can run around all day long. Inside, it’s about the same size as the old place, but the good thing is I can build an extension very cheaply for extra storage. The builders are due tomorrow. Of course the previous owners left a lot of their furniture and their taste in wallpaper was a bit garish. So I’ve spent the whole of the first day rearranging the chairs and sofas…

Gray’s Anatomy – Changing My Religion – By Richard Gray
Readers of my last column will know I’ve been thinking about switching to Android. Jokingly in one of my recent iPhone photography classes, I said to people: “I’m thinking of going over to the dark side”. I thought it would get a bit of a laugh, but the faces that greeted me weren’t all smiling. Some seemed concerned for my well-being, as if I might have been taking drugs. On others, jaws dropped wordlessly. Others seemed to be accusing me of betrayal. Judas. Admittedly, there’s a clue in the name of this class that might mean people have a certain prejudice. Even my wife looked at me when she realised…

Gray’s Anatomy – ‘Time for a (big) change?’ – By Richard Gray
My eyes have been struggling with the small iPhone screen. After a long scribble session with PS Touch or some intricate masking on Photo Wizard, I find myself slightly bleary-eyed. I think I need more real estate on my screen. And I admit, with my iphone contract coming up for renewal, I have been looking at the “larger” options. And in a world where the big corporations know everything about us, barely a day has gone by when I haven’t received some sort of overture from one of the world’s leading phone manufacturers or networks. Some of the approaches have been quite discrete. I know how these sort of…

Gray’s Anatomy – The Royal Society for iPhoneographers – By Richard Gray
There’s a huge building on London’s very salubrious Piccadilly which used to be the home of the Royal Institute for Painters in Water Colors. I know this because the words “The Royal Institute for Painters in Water Colors” are written in large stone letters across the top of the building. People sometimes say of something they’re not quite sure about: it’s not set in stone. The Painters in Water Colors were obviously quite sure of themselves when they moved in and so they decided, yes, let’s set the name in stone. Or perhaps their decision was motivated more by their determination to be considered a serious art form. The Royal…

Gray’s Anatomy – I lost my iPhone! – By Richard Gray
It’s Friday again! Wow, the weeks seem to whizz past faster and faster – of course Friday’s around here mean one thing, Richard Gray’s Gray’s Anatomy column and this week is a bitter sweet recount of Richard and his escaping iPhone – don’t miss this, over to you Richard (foreword by Joanne Carter). ‘It’s every iPhone photographers nightmare – last Saturday, I lost my phone! I’d been at a music festival and had developed a small rip in my shorts, which, what with all the clambering around and stuffing things in my pockets, by the end of the day had developed into a huge hole around my upper…

Gray’s Anatomy – Wo ist mein Handy? – By Richard Gray
I hope this column doesn’t come across as too self-absorbed, but I will take the advice of someone on Twitter who recently said to me there was nothing wrong with celebrating one’s successes. Though on reflection, I’m not sure this is such a great success. I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed by leading German newspaper Bild about my iphoneography classes. In the article, I’m described as a Handy-Knipser and also (possibly) a Handy-Nutzer. I rather like these terms. The Handy-Knipser sounds a bit kinky, said one of my friends. But it reminded me of something I already knew from my previous job (I worked in a mainly German-speaking…

Gray’s Anatomy – what are you oggling at? – By Richard Gray
“This week saw the launch of Hipstamatic’s long-awaited photo-sharing app. And what have they decided to call their new app, I hear you ask? Well, no doubt after great investment in some expensive Los Angeles PR consultancy, they’ve settled on the name Oggl. OK, yes, like Flickr, Tumblr, Grmblr, they’ve missed out some letters. That’s the first five minutes of the consultant’s fee. But what about the actual meaning of the word. Or the things that people think of when they hear it. Did they road-test it in the UK? Possibly not. Did they even road-test it anywhere? Possibly not. The (presumably American) Urban Dictionary gives as an example of…
