Streets Ahead: Interview with Natali Prosvetova
This week, the Women’s Mobile Street Photography Collective (Streets Ahead) is extremely pleased and honored to feature Natali Prosvetova in our interview section. Many of you will be familiar with Natali’s work in other genres of iPhoneography. Extremely prolific, Natali never ceases to surprise me with her work. Creatively, she seems to be able to successfully tap in to many aspects of mobile art, from very painterly, to surrealist to street photography. I first became aware of her work on the Hipstamatic Facebook page, and later in ‘Pixels, the art of the iPhone’. I was amazed at the work that she was producing with her first generation iPhone, the 2G, which just…

If you are not a member of our Facebook group… we highly recommend that you join us! This is our space for sharing newsworthy information and conducting discussions (what, when, where, why and how) about Women Photographers/Artists and Street Photography, in general. So, if you…

Streets Ahead – Challenge 1 – Showcase
Welcome to the showcase for our first challenge, ‘Crouching’ (photographing street scenes/life from a crouching position). We hope that this will be the first of many challenges that will be run in the Streets Ahead group. The objective of the challenge is to help us collectively practice and perhaps learn some new techniques. Each challenge will be based either on a shooting technique or perhaps a theme. We would like Streets Ahead to be an interactive group, and for members to try to participate in the challenges. If you are a woman street photographer, please join our growing community. • Flickr Group (for weekly showcase submissions) • Facebook Group (for information sharing/discussions) "Keeping…

Mobile Photography – Streets Ahead Interview With Allie Astell
This week, the Women’s Mobile Street Photography Collective (Streets Ahead) is pleased and honored to feature Allie Astell in our interview section. I first noticed Allie’s work when she was featured in the ‘Adventures in Hipstaland’ series from the Hipstamatic team. She did one set of photographs of Dahab and the other of Morocco and I thought that she had a fantastic eye. I have been following her work ever since. And for this interview, we decided to feature photographs from her life in the middle east, where she is based for most of the year. Her ‘streets’ are often the beach and the dessert, and although this may not…

Streets Ahead – Seventeenth Edition
Welcome to the seventeenth edition of “Streets Ahead,” a weekly column dedicated to women mobile street photographers. Each week we review and curate work that was submitted to our Flickr Group. In addition to creating a showcase video which features a sampling of submitted work, we also highlight a few images that caught our attention… offering some thoughtful commentary about technique, composition, and subject matter. Please note, however, that we’ve had the privilege of viewing some fabulous work submitted to our Flickr Group but we will not feature in our column… only because this is a Women’s Collective. (Sorry guys, 🙂 ) And since we are a Mobile Photography Collective, …
