Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 29 October 2017
This week has been an interesting one, half way through it I spoke with highly talented mobile artist, Jane Schulz on the telephone. Now hearing is not my forte, as many of you know, it comes with the territory of being severely to moderately deaf but I do try. I like to think of myself more as a listener. Anyway, between the bumps, silences and crashes of our telephone call, we discussed the ‘state’ of mobile photography and art today, not so much the talent, which rises each week but more the state of the community. To me, the community is the most important area, it’s one where we conjoin,…

“Be wild, that is how to clear the river. The river does not flow in polluted, we manage that. The river does not dry up, we block it. If we want to allow it its freedom, we have to allow our ideational lives to be let loose, to stream, letting anything come, initially censoring nothing. That is creative life.” This is a passage from a wonderful book, that you may have already read, it’s not new. It’s entitled “Women who run with the Wolves: Contacting the Power of the Wild Woman”, written and thoroughly researched by Dr Clarissa Pinkola Estes. This book was recommend to me by an incredibly talented Vogue photographer that I have…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 8 October 2017
In a spasm of self-love and need, this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Showcase will keep you transfixed as you are guided through a labyrinth of delicious ambiguity. There’s no plot, strands are left deliberately trailing, you’ll find nothing to grab hold of but you will be left feeling entirely satisfied. Each artist has created work that is not just a triumph of psychological insight but also of social observation and storytelling magic. Some work you may favour over another and there is no reconciliation to this paradox. The ferocity of each work of art and each artists’ character behind their work serves as a view to the emotional and…
Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 24 September 2017
You know that feeling when you just can’t wait to leap out of bed? Well, that happened to me this morning and its not happened for a while. I share a very beauiful bed with a very attractive and intelligent person who manages to stimulate me in every possible way but not even the lure of that deliciousness combined with comforting luscious silk sheets could seduce me this morning. I’m bursting with excitement and renewed direction for TheAppWhisperer, all will be revealed soon. Mobile Photography and Art is a huge part of my life, when I sleep, I dream multiple times, it’s almost a spiritual experience to me. I see…
Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 10 September 2017
As I created this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group showcase, Orfeo et Eurydice: Melodie for Piano Solo performed by James Rhodes played and soothed me, this beautiful rendition will likely reduce you to tears. Rhodes is a highly accomplished concert pianist and a man whose personal memoir is so raw and harrowing that the court of appeal initially prevented him from publishing it, the ban was lifted and his book ‘Instrumental: A Memoir of Madness, Medication and Music‘ which includes a Spotify playlist, is a heartbreakingly difficult read. Music saved Rhodes and he makes no bones about it. ‘Plot 29‘ by Allan Jenkins, Observer Food Monthly editor is…
Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 3 September 2017
“Individuals often withhold help because they are uncertain about whether beneficiaries will appreciate their assistance. Expressions of gratitude can signify that a beneficiary values, needs, and accepts one’s assistance. Previous research has shown that grateful feelings enable people to savour positive experiences, cope with stress, and strengthen social relationships. A disposition toward gratitude is also associated with higher levels of subjective well-being, demonstrating that counting one’s blessings can increase positive emotions and health”, Francis Flynn, Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Stanford. Appreciation is one of life’s great motivators, when we take the time to let people know that we value them, it naturally inspires them to continue doing even more.…
Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 23 July 2017
“The desire for security and the feeling of insecurity are the same thing. To hold your breath is to lose your breath. A society based on the quest for security is nothing but a breath-retention contest in which everyone is as taut as a drum and as purple as a beet“, as said by Alan Watts in his book ‘An Antidote to the Age of Anxiety’. As we are drawn to this weeks mobile photography and art showcase, we witness artists’ security and their insecurities. Essentially, in this world, there is no security and yet we are all guilty for trying to grasp at it. Our anxieties are linked to…
