Mobile Photography & Art Instagram Showcase – 19 July 2020

2020-07-19 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Instagram Showcase – 19 July 2020

There is and there always has been a vast difference between a photographer and someone who is interested in photography. David Hurn (Hurn, D and Jay, B. On Being a Photographer. (3rd ed.) 1997. Pp.43-44) explains that the person who becomes a photographer in not interested in photography as an end result but uses photography to pursue an intense interest in something else. This is a very important point because otherwise, photography only becomes about the hardware and it is so fitting in respect of mobile photography. Although mobile photographers are interested in the latest smartphone, iPad’s, the latest add on lenses, filters etc, I have noticed, that that interest…

Mobile Symphonies Exhibition – Call for Entries – Reminder!

2020-06-30 / Comments Off on Mobile Symphonies Exhibition – Call for Entries – Reminder!

TheAppWhisperer.com, together with Jane Schultz and Peter Wilkin from Edit From The Soul and @ig_artistry, are thrilled to launch a joint Call to Exhibit – we can’t wait to see your entries – hurry don’t miss the deadline! The Theme: Mobile Symphonies There is no doubt that Music can inspire the art that we create. It can touch us deeply, stir our emotions and tap into parts of us that words alone cannot reach. In a matter of seconds it can draw us in and completely change our mood with its rhythms, colours, shapes, textures, and tones. For many mobile artists their artistic practice hovers on the borderline of painting,…

    Mobile Photography & Art Flickr/Instagram Showcase 28 June 2020

    2020-06-28 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art Flickr/Instagram Showcase 28 June 2020

The desire to belong is one of the greatest driving forces behind TheAppWhisperer.com’s longevity. Roles of photographers and artists have changed throughout history and to many, they can be lonely or isolating pursuits but it is the facility to identify within the structure of a collective, that individuals seek counsel, share ideas and pull each other forward to the benefit of each and everyone. Together, we have created one of the world’s most enduring and successful collectives. Its formation was not incidental, it was born from international experience of 20 years of photographic journalism and discontent with mainstream media’s portrayal of mobile art practice. During lockdown I have been agitating…

Mobile Photography and Art – Draw The Line Column – #AloneTogether

2020-06-22 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography and Art – Draw The Line Column – #AloneTogether

We are delighted to publish the results of our highly successful Draw The Line #AloneTogether Challenge. Huge thanks to our editors Carol Wiebe and Peter Wilkin for curating this and producing a wonderful video of the results. We had a fantastic response to #TAWAloneTogether & want to thank everyone who submitted to this challenge. The standard of entries was so high & it was incredibly difficult to select only nine images. We prioritised art that not only reflected the theme of the challenge but also incorporated intentional lines & marks that we felt enhanced the image. After a great deal of deliberation we finally settled on the following nine works…

Mobile Photography and Art Flickr/Instagram Showcase – 7 June 2020

2020-06-07 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography and Art Flickr/Instagram Showcase – 7 June 2020

It’s no secret that I have been romantically linked with a vast number of visually literate artforms over the years. Art raises awareness and elicits empathy for the matters at stake but sometimes we have to bend the message towards a more subjective and conceptualised direction. When I make art, it’s intimate, romantic, dramatic, confessional, I am metaphorically seduced. I’ll never tire of romance, it’s the only vice I have and my production is expeditious. Collectively, we have to believe that art has this power, this charisma, potential for magic and you don’t need to look further than this weeks Mobile Photography and Art showcase for that. Enjoy! If you…

2020-05-31 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography and Art Flickr/Instagram Showcase – 31 May 2020

“The task of a philosophy of photography is to reflect upon the possibility of freedom – and thus its significance – in a world dominated by apparatuses [cameras], to reflect upon the way in which, despite everything, it is possible for human beings to give significance to their lives in face of the chance necessity of death. Such a philosophy is necessary because it is the only form of revolution left open to us”. A quote from Towards a Philosophy of Photography by Vilém Flusser, 2000, I’ve been reading this week. It’s an interesting account modelling a distinction between ‘light writing’ (photography) and writing text itself. It’s a good academic…
