Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr/Instagram Group Showcase – 24 February 2019
“Love is or it ain’t. Thin love ain’t love at all.” ― Toni Morrison, Beloved. I read a lot as a child and I still read a good deal as a adult. Beloved, by Toni Morrison is one book that I read as a teenager, that really stayed with me. My great friend Rachel and I were hungry for literature, we read the same books, at the same times and then studied and reviewed them together. Rachel went on to teach A level literature at a grammar school. Beloved is not an easy read, compared I suppose with something like To Kill a Mocking Bird and by saying that, I…

The path of true love… did it ever run smoothly? I don’t think anyone can say agree positively with that. Arguing the toss with someone you love – can be futile and the consequences make it uncomfortable. Disagreeing with restraint, is the ideal but how many of us do that, all of the time? Whether this week has meant you’ve loaded the dishwasher in silence with your partner, or with strong words and broken crockery, we have to make a time to come together and try not to cross some of the ideological lines. So, how do we do that? How do we get back to that initial feeling of…

There’s much humour to be had at my nightstand, not least in the morning when my husband duels with balancing fresh coffee on the piles of books and there’s a particular book, which I feel should be on every woman’s nightstand ‘Milk and Honey’ by Rupi Kaur. It’s a book of poetry, about healing and hope, discussing themes of love and loss, bringing about an enlightened self. Kaur ends the book with a tender love letter to her readers, thus reads “you have made it to the end. With my heart in your hands. Thank you. For arriving here safely. For being tender with the most delicate part of me.…

“I knew how tight everything was, especially the loss of twenty minutes and I asked the Queen if she would remove the tiara. (I used the word ‘crown’, which was a faux pas). I suggested that a less dressy look might be better. And she said ‘Less dressy!’ What do you think this is?”. A quote from a book that I have been carrying around all week, sent to me personally by my dear colleague at the publishers, Phaidon. ‘Annie Leibovitz At Work’ is a revised and updated edition of the original book of 2008 and I just adore it. It offers more than a glimpse behind the scenes of…

Mobile Photography & Art – Happy Thanksgiving Post…
Happy Thanksgiving! We’re reviving and in some cases refreshing our mobile photography and art thanksgiving post of last year because it’s as relevant today as it was then. Although we do not officially observe Thanksgiving here in the UK, for me personally, it gives me another excuse to send love and gratitude to our beautiful community. Without your art, your thoughts and your daily leaps of courageous self-expression, TheAppWhisperer would not exist. This week, I was in a prominent board meeting, seated around a table of five Directors of said company I was invited to. I was discussing your work and TheAppWhisperer. At the end of the meeting, one Director…

“I began again, after lovemaking, to experience the sense of heightened interconnectedness, which Romantic poets and Painters called ‘the Sublime.” Ah yes, another week and another book, this time ‘Vagina: A New Biography’ by Naomi Wolf, it’s not actually new, I’m just a little late to this particular party. So… yes, Wolf explains that during orgasm, she achieved the ability ‘to see ‘colours as if they were brighter‘. This was actually, until she started having a bit of trouble altogether and determined to pursue the matter, following a trip to her gynaecologist and then to New York’s finest neurologist, she was diagnosed with a mild form of spina bifida, essentially, her…
