      According to the latest report from comScore Inc, out of a surey of more than 30,000 US mobile subscribers, Google Android continued to gain ground in the smartphone market, reaching a whopping 41.8% market share. Apple are second with 27% and RIM comes in for a bronze with a 21.7% share. Meanwhile Microsoft sports a lowly 5.7% and Symbian with 1.9%. OEM Market Share For the three month average period ending in July, 234 million Americans ages 13 and older used mobile devices.       According to a report in Fortune today, they state that despite Apple being the most profitable mobile company, this has come about largely due at the expense of Nokia, Sony Ericcson, LG and Motorola. Asymco’s Horace Dediu who put this data together said, "Will Android change this picture?" he asks rhetorically.       Fortune are running a report based on new research from Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley, it compares Apple’s performance in the mobile/smart phone industry to that of its competitors for the first half of 2010. Apple sold 17 million iPhones during the first half of the year, a tiny fraction of the 400 million handsets sold by top manufacturers Nokia, Samsung, and LG combined. But when looking at industry profits, Apple snagged 39% of the pie while the other three companies combined to take only 32%.
