Mobile Photography & Art – The Courage to be Afraid – Showcase for Carolyn Hall Young
Recently, I set up a Facebook group entitled – The Courage to be Afraid – A Tender Tribute to Human Valiance with Carolyn Hall Young. Hall Young is our dear friend and hugely talented artist and many of you are aware that she is currently experiencing particularly challenging health issues. This group was made with love and is full of love from all the artists who have joined this group to create and share their images for her. I have complied each image into a film showcase, so that she can view all of them in one sitting (hopefully). When she is feeling more well, I am sure she will…

Streets Ahead – Women’s Mobile Street Photography – New Challenge – ‘Panning’
We are proud to announce a new Challenge to our Women’s Mobile Street Photography Collective – Streets Ahead. The details are below and the selected images will be portrayed in a showcase later in the month, for an example of that, please see here. CHALLENGE 13: Panning Deadline 20 July 2016 Time for a new challenge. Panning on the street with your mobile phone. Panning is not about movement, it is movement, and that’s what makes it challenging: it’s the following of a moving subject along its plane of motion. Most often it’s a horizontal plane with the subject a runner, a rider and so on. Essentially, you should be…

Mobile Photography – StreetWise Showcase – June 2016
“There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.” Robert Frank We were thrilled and particularly moved by your photos submitted to our StreetWise Flickr group and chose images for the showcase that are in keeping with our group’s intention and guidelines “We believe that it is important to focus on the key aspects of street photography composition, timing, juxtaposition, catching the decisive moment rather than relying on too much aping. We therefore feel that aping should be kept to a minimum cropping, tweaking exposure, colour, adding a grain or texture is ok but we would like to see you steer away from overly app’ed images…

Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Second Challenge Results – Shadows
Welcome to our Second StreetWise Challenge Showcase – ‘Shadows’. We are thrilled to share it with you! “Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” Elliott Erwitt We hope that you found this to be an inspiring theme – perhaps seeing the streets around you and those that inhabit them in a new way and perhaps from a perspective that you may not have noticed before. The most difficult part of curating the showcases is choosing a limited number of photos from all of those that were submitted – thank you so…

Streets Ahead Interview – Donna Donato – Mobile Street Photography
I am so delighted to publish this excellent interview with a mobile street photographer that I admire very much. Donna Donato‘s street images contain a certain tenderness that warms me, she brings a poetic effect to her work from her initial capture to her crops. Cara Gallardo Weil our co-editor to our StreetsAhead group (with Gina Costa) has produced an interview that you will all love to read. Thank you both so much for this. This week, the Women’s Street Photography Collective (Streets Ahead) is pleased and honoured to feature Donna Donato in our interview segment. Donna’s work has been published in City Zine and Snap magazines as well as included in various TheAppWhisperer…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 17 April 2016
There is no silence more resounding than that of a cognitive communication malfunction. To be awake, to understand, to feel excruciating pain, to be aware of an existence but unable to reply. We all live complex and miracles of life, diverting us, pleasing us, frightening, transforming and defining us. We share so much, least of all our love for mobile photography and art. This weeks showcase explores profound emotional and visceral matters. It is an elegant and moving film, I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. If you would like your work to be considered for entry into our weekly Mobile Photography and Art flickr group,…
