Sony Creates 48K 360 Degree Video with 12 Xperia Z5 Smartphones
Sony currently holds first place (with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus) smartphone for the best camera in a leading smartphone with their Sony Xperia Z5 (see here). Utililsing this position, Sony created a 360 degree video shot entirely on 12 Xperia Z5 smartphones, eaching filming simultaneously in 4K (essentially, that’s a total of 48Ks). Sony explain (as part of their recent photography trip to Rise Ski & Snowboard Festival in Les Deux Alpes, France), “The short film is the result of an ambitious, creative R&D experiment, where each Xperia Z5 Compact device was mounted on a custom 3D printed rig. We are all aware of Apple’s incredible ‘Shot on iPhone’ campaign with billboards, print and transit ads published with artists’ photographs but today Apple have expanded the iPhone World Gallery campaign to mobile movies too. Demonstrating what users of an iPhone 6 can capture with the built in video tools and available apps. Seven videos have been selected to appear within the iPhone World Gallery on Television, cinemas and rich media ads and of course on Apple.com.
