Streets Ahead Interview: Christine Mignon
This week, the Women’s Mobile Street Photography Collective (Streets Ahead) is pleased and honoured to feature Christine Mignon in our interview segment. I first noticed Christine’s work when she posted some photos on the Hipstamatic page. Her composition and ability to capture moments caught my attention. She has a knack of catching juxtapositions and humorous situations as well as expressive portraits of people on the streets. I find it fascinating that she shoots most of her street shots from the hip without looking through the viewfinder. I highly recommend a visit to Christine’s gallery where you will see some of her other work as well as her street photography. ~ Cara Gallardo Weil Flickr:…

Streets Ahead – Thirty First Edition – Mobile Street Photography
Welcome to the thirty first edition of “Streets Ahead,” a weekly column dedicated to women mobile street photographers. Each week we review and curate work that was submitted to our Flickr Group. If you are not a member of our Facebook group… we highly recommend that you join us! This is our space for sharing newsworthy information and conducting discussions (what, when, where, why and how) about Women Photographers/Artists and Street Photography, in general. So, if…

APPart – Art Backgrounds with Mel Harrison
We’re delighted to publish Mel Harrison’s latest article to her Column, APPart. This time Mel laments her art education but questions the style of art teaching and why it can either inhibit or encourage your natural creativity. A great piece to ponder, over to you Mel. (Foreword by Joanne Carter). “My New Years resolution was to start contributing to my column here at The App whisperer on a regular basis. I opened this document in the Pages App and stared at it for a long time. I was getting a bit terse with myself because writing and art is something that usually comes freely to me. Then I…

The Guetta Fringe – Art’s Purpose – By Roger Guetta
We’re delighted to publish Roger Guetta’s latest article to his ‘The Guetta Fringe’ Column with us. This time Roger delves into the very depths of the meaning of art. We have created a video showcase of Roger’s images as well as including each one separately below too. Don’t miss this… over to you Roger (foreword by Joanne Carter). “I sometimes ask myself: “Roger, why do you produce art?” Mick Jagger once said: “What else would I be doing in this life, meditate on a mountain?” Bob Dylan once said: “I do it for one reason or another, but I can’t remember what the reason is anymore.” Jasper Johns…

Streets Ahead – Thirtieth Edition – Street Mobile Photography
Welcome to our first installment of “Streets Ahead” for 2014! I have to confess, this showcase was not an easy one to curate. Our Flickr Group has collected such a wonderful pool of images from our membership… but unfortunately, we have only so much space allotted for this column. So… I highly suggest that after viewing this video, you pour yourself a cup of coffee and head over to Flickr for a proper tour. Also, before closing, I wanted to share one of my very favorite books with you that I’ve been revisiting this past month. It is one that I always turn to when I reach an artistic crossroad…
